This state of the art archiving system was purchased end 2014, so it is a very recent.

It has been assigned to an editing job that required three editors working on a feature
film which was shot using RED Epics and Dragons cameras in 5K. It is ideally suited for
editing the sheer heavy data load of 4K rushes which most systems could not support.

The film producer told us:
It is an excellent system, we have not had any down time due to technical issues, it is
very robust and could serve an editorial house very well for years to come.\"

Their Post Production Manager (who used it simultaneously with two other editors)
told us :
\"The system is configured a specific way for our environment but can be re-configured
for a host of other environments. We currently have it at 96TB usable from a 144TB
base.
We configured it this way for redundancy and safety. This way two drives can go
completely down and we haven’t lost any data.
We’ve also got it configured like this for performance as we’re seeing sequential speeds
both read & write at over 1000mb/sec on all clients.
For connectivity we’re using ATTO 8GB Fibre HBA’s to connect to the clients.
This system has two metadata controllers so again if one controller goes down the other
one pops right up and there is no downtime whatsoever on the system.
We have never lost connectivity or gone down for any time whatsoever.
The data load on this system for our main RED project is roughly 11TB consisting of the
project files, renders, vfx & audio.
The RED material is over 40TB consisting of 232 RED Mag’s with over 10,000 assets.
Roughly 24TB of additional material is on the system in a variety of different formats
and file-types.
An additional 50TB of material has been archived onto LT06 for back-ups of all of the
RED material and project files.
We’re in an Apple environment and all of our systems are optimized for a
RED/QuickTime workflow but that can be changed in the configuration of the system
upon the purchase.
We edited primarily in a 3840x2160 QuickTime pipeline with multiple editors working
on the same files in AVID as well as Adobe Premiere at once while RED footage was
used for all of the online in colour timing simultaneously via DaVinci Resolve.
We had no dropped frames on playback or render problems ever.
At 80% capacity (we’re currently using 75TB) we still have speeds over 1000 MB/s.
Quantum offers more scalability than any of their competitors and are the top in “BIG”
data field.
Support is very fast and efficient as all of the support is handled remotely and we never
encountered a problem where a technician had to make a service call.
100% uptime is key in a production environment and I’ve never worked on a system
that is as rock-solid as this.\"

When Quantum configures the system they spend a few days with the client to build
and implement the system based on the clients specific needs and requirements so all
of the above information is specific to our environment and requirements.
Speed and performance can also be quite a bit different in a windows environment as
we’re limited to the Thunderbolt 2 bandwidth restrictions that our Apple systems. The
StorNext file system is configured so both Windows and Apple computers can share the
same system seamlessly.\"
